A short story about reading

If you love reading, then you know that sometimes there are moments in life that may last days, weeks, months or years during which you do not find the time to read ; you just happen to lose the habit, and pleasure, of reading.

The thing is: time flies by quickly and it can be hard to free up time for things you like to do or that are important to you.

And then, there is this man. An inspiration.

It was past 23:00 on a Sunday evening, the last evening of the Brussels Light Festival. The show was coming to an end; the streets were emptying. As I was trying to fully embrace the night to take pictures, I saw this man walking by. He was casually reading his newspaper as he was walking, not caring at all about the dark, uneven, and dimly lit streets of Brussels. I got this shot of him, immortalizing the scene.

This photo is a reminder to me to keep taking the time to read. It will always be possible. You just have to make the time. Just like this man.

As I am writing this, I am reminded of this quote: « Do not think “When I am less stressed then I can make time for relationships and health (self-care)” while in fact… by making time for relationships and self-care you will be less stressed »

Indeed, sometimes we have things backwards and all we need is just a gentle reminder to turn it back around!

[okay, now I’ll close instagram and just go read a book].

Have a nice week.
